Local roofs
Brighton roofs take a battering
Wind comes in off the Channel from the south-west, carrying salt with it, and on the hills of Hanover and Elm Grove there is nothing to slow it down. Over the years that works the nails loose, lifts flashings and finds every gap in the pointing.
The houses don't make it easier. Regency terraces in Kemp Town and Brunswick often hide a valley roof behind the parapet that nobody looks at until it leaks. Victorian streets have shared chimney stacks, and the bungalows out at Woodingdean and Saltdean have their own tired old felt and concrete tiles.
